Pfizer Gold 2005 Producer Feedback

Stephen Cook of Triple C Charolais, along with his brothers own an operation of about 1,000 beef cattle. They started using the Pfizer Gold program about four years ago to protect the overall health of their calves.

“It definitely makes a difference. The longer we seem to do this, the better our health situation has become in the feedlot. And I think the fact that we have a feeder sale with Pfizer Gold, we definitely see a premium on the calves.”

Neal Deitz,

Neal Deitz operates Blacksprings Land and Cattle, a 220-head cattle operation that he runs with his father. He has been using the Pfizer Gold program for five years. Deitz is happy with the control and protection that the Pfizer Gold program provides.

“We’ll continue using it. We have been treating a lot less calves and we’re happier with our gain.”

Dale Harter,

Keremeos, British Columbia

Dale Harter manages Lino Gagno ranch where they generally background about 300 calves. He has been using the Pfizer Gold program for the past four years.

“Shipping fever is the biggest health issue we were looking to target, and pneumonia – everything that IBR brings on. Before I switched to Pfizer Gold I had about 225 head and that winter I treated about 200. From there on, we started using the Pfizer Gold program. This year we have 220 head and I’ve treated about eight of them for shipping fever – that’s it. We’ve been really happy with Pfizer Gold.”

Scott Innes,

Grande Prairie, Alberta

Scott Innes operates Innes Livestock, where he backgrounds 1,800 head of cattle. He has been using Pfizer Gold for the last five years.

“We prefer to have all calves vaccinated coming in. We prefer to buy calves that have had their first and second shot of Pfizer Gold. Our death loss has really dropped dramatically because these calves have an immune system built into them already.”

Guy Johnson and his wife Susan of Shoreline Stock Farm, operate a 400-head cattle operation. They had very good response with the Pfizer Gold program.

“The feedlot treated only one animal each year. And in those two lots there was not one death loss, not even one set back. I am sold on the Pfizer Gold program. These vaccines work and that’s the bottom line.”

George McCall,

Annan, Ontario

George McCall runs a 250-head cow/calf operation along with his wife Cheryl and son Adam. They have been using the Pfizer Gold program since 2002. He markets his calves with the Bruce Peninsula Calf Producers Club.

“At our sales we have had no problems selling our calves. The 2003 and 2004 sales were exceptionally good considering the state our industry is in with the BSE problem. I think this is partly to do with our aggressive vaccination program. We’re Ontario producers producing quality, healthy calves, and Pfizer Gold is the program we follow to do that.”
