Pfizer Gold

Pfizer Gold 2006 Producer Feedback

Clarke Tucker
Williams Lake, B.C.

Clarke Tucker, his wife Judy and their two children operate a 500-head ranch that has been a family business for over 50 years. The Tucker’s have been using the Pfizer Gold program since it began and feel it has been very successful in protecting their herd health and confidence in the cattle they sell.

“We feel Pfizer Gold is a top notch program. We are doing this for the future health of our cow herd as well as for the calves. We have to provide a healthy product for the marketplace. We are pleased with the confidence that we are receiving from our buyers. Pfizer Gold is a pretty easy sell around here.”
Doug Moss
Bassano, Alberta

Doug Moss operates Prairie Feeders Limited, a 4,000-head feedlot and a 180-head cow/calf operation. He feels it is extremely important to protect the overall health of his herd and feedlot, so he started a program to reimburse clients for using Pfizer Gold when feeding their ranch cattle at his feedlot.

“I provide them Pfizer Gold at branding time free of charge. When these calves come into the feedlot they get boostered and that’s usually the last time we have to touch them until reimplant time. Since starting this program our morbidity has fallen to less than half of what it was.”
George Waldner
Cow Boss, Byemoor Colony, Alberta

George Waldner has been farming for over 20 years with his wife Dora. They calve about 450 head and operate a 1,000-head feedlot. They have used Pfizer Gold since its inception.

“We have had people tell us they don’t vaccinate because it’s a waste of money but I bought cattle this year that were not vaccinated and I will never do that again. It costs a lot of money if you buy cattle that are not on a program and put them in your feedlot. These calves had no immune system as far as I am concerned. I put them on Pfizer Gold, now they are fine and healthy.”
Ken Wourms
St. Walburg, Saskatchewan

Ken Wourms in partnership with his wife Kristi, run Wourms Genetics Inc., a mixed farm and ranch with 650 cows. They have been using Pfizer Gold for the past three years because it helps protect their investment.

“Most people in the cattle industry are not great believers of insurance. We carry very little feed insurance or insurance in general on our cattle, but I certainly look at this Pfizer Gold program as a very affordable herd health insurance for our cow herd and calves.”
Ted Harty
High River, Alberta

Ted Harty and his family operate Harty T2 Ranch, a 250-head cow/calf operation in addition to 350 grass yearling cattle and a small back-grounding feedlot of about 500 calves. They have been using the Pfizer Gold program since it began as an important part of their management practice.

“The reputation of Pfizer Gold is very good. From what I understand feedlot operators and managers are looking for cattle that have had as much protection as they can and the Pfizer Gold program covers what they are looking for.”
Joe Larre
St. Walburg, Saskatchewan

Joe Larre along with his family run Larre Farming Inc., a 580-head cow/calf operation. This is their fourth year using the Pfizer Gold program as a valuable part of their overall herd management program.

“Since we started Pfizer Gold we don’t get any sick calves in the fall. If you don’t have to treat any calves in the fall that’s a pretty good bonus when you can just wean them.”
