Pfizer Gold

Whole Herd Immunization

What is Whole Herd Immunization?

Successful herd health programs involve coordinated effort between veterinarians and cattle owners to minimize disease effects and optimize production output of the whole herd. The Pfizer Gold Plus whole herd immunization program is a vaccination strategy that moves beyond calf vaccination to include the breeding herd for IBR and BVD fetal protection.

The Pfizer Gold Plus Whole Herd Immunization Program

Advantages of Pfizer Gold Plus BVD Control Include:

  • Improved reproductive performance
Exposure to a BVD PI calf 4 days after insemination resulted in a pregnancy rate of 33% versus a pregnancy rate of 79% in controls.1
  • Improved weaning weights
Non-BVD PI calves on average weighed 43 kg more than BVD PI herd mates.1
  • Improved feedlot performance
Calves exposed to BVD PI animals had $5 - $10 increased treatment costs per calf versus non-exposed herd mates.2
By protecting unborn calves from BVD, the susceptibility of the entire herd can be greatly reduced.
